Welcome to Empowering Africa Inc! We are a group of dedicated and committed citizens who are focused on helping tackle inequities in education around the globe. Cofounders Max Douglass, Venkatesh Shenoy, and Mantra Dave started EAI as high school friends from Central Illinois who have always been focused on making a difference. When the three of us learnt about how opportunities in education in developing countries around the world, specifically in Western Africa, are still very limited, we were initially surprised. Education is a fundamental human right, and should be available to all citizens across the globe. Especially when informed that higher education in West Africa is merely a fraction of the cost of the same degree in the United States, it became even more shocking that most aspiring college students in Sub-Saharan Africa lack the funds to go to college. Seeing an opportunity, the co-founders became determined to make a difference in the lives of students. Focusing initial efforts on the Sub-Saharan nation of Ghana, Empowering Africa works with partners and raises money that is then awarded to deserving but underprivileged students.
